Description
The Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) is a public Catalan university with an international vocation, characterised by a strong focus on scientific research and teaching. Since it was established, this university has had a marked social commitment which is present by contributing in two main areas: knowledge and innovation. The UAB is a leading institution when it comes to bringing together the new structures and models for higher education in Europe, and offers quality, multidisciplinary, flexible and highly innovative teaching in accordance with the needs of society and the students. The UAB was the first university in Spain to offer computer studies (1972), environmental studies (1992) and biotechnology (1998). The UAB offers a wide range of courses, with 75 undergraduate courses, 73 doctoral programmes, 123 postgraduate programmes and 151 specialisation courses. In keeping with its status as a research university, the UAB is especially orientated towards the provision of posgraduate-student studies (Masters Degrees and PhDs). The UAB has three campuses in Barcelona: the main campus in Bellaterra (Cerdanyola del Vallès), where most of its teaching and research centres are located the Sabadell campus, which concentrates on technology and business and the health sciences campus in Barcelona, at the Hospital de Sant Pau. Its main areas of investigation include Biotechnology and Biomedicine (including the vital contribution made through the clinical research carried out at associate hospitals), Animal Health, Food Technology and Safety, Environmental Sciences and Technology, Nanotechnology, Microelectronics, Material Science and Engineering, Computer Vision, Artificial Intelligence, Experimental Sciences, Social Sciences, and research in Humanities.
