A piece of news
The top global biotechnology fair will bring together more than 15,000 professionals from the sector between 6 and 9 June 2016
A total of 42 Catalan companies and organizations will attend BIO International Convention, the most important biotechnology convention in the world, which will take place this year from 6 to 9 June at the Moscone Center in San Francisco (California, United States). California is home to one of the main life-sciences clusters in the United States, with more than 2,600 companies in the sector and an average of 30 new companies created each year.
The Catalan delegation to BIO 2016, led once again this year by Biocat, will have its own space in the Spanish pavilion – coordinated by ICEX and located very close to the Business Forum and the main sponsors of the fair.
The Catalan delegation will include pharmaceutical, biotechnology, consultancy and services companies and research organizations. Five of these companies will have their own booths in the Pavilion of the BioRegion of Catalonia: Archivel Pharma, Bcn Peptides, Salvat Biotech, Trifermed CBDO and ZeClinics; and Grifols will have its own booth at the fair outside of the Spanish pavilion. Companies like Bioibérica, Bionure, GP Pharm, Salvat Biotech, Plasmia Biotech and Oryzon Genomics are regulars at the fair and have been participating for more than five years now. Others are back after having participated for the first time last year, like Molomics, VHIR and Som Biotech; and some are participating for the first time, like: ZeClinics (which will have its own booth), DBGen, Institute for Health Science Research Germans Trias i Pujol (IGTP) and IDP Pharma.
For the first time this year, the general entrance will include Convention Access & Partnering, which gives participants access to the partnering system and allows them to set up meetings in the Business Forum, as well as the rest of the program of the fair. The partnering, furthermore, has been extended to 3 1/2 days, and will begin on 6 June.
BIO is a great opportunity to meet with top executives and decision-makers, discover new stakeholders and forge alliances. In fact, the one-to-one meetings are the strong point of the event, as each year it sets new records. Last year there were nearly 30,000 partnering meetings held among the 3,100 participating companies.
Activity in California is focused mainly in the areas around San Francisco and San Diego, and is noteworthy in the areas of biopharmaceutical products, industrial biotechnology, biofuels and medical and diagnostic devices, among others.
