Strategic focal points

In order to carry out its mission and meet its objectives, Biocat structures its activities around five key focal points that respond to the Catalan biotechnology, biomedicine and medical technology sector’s development and promotion needs.

These focal points are:

  • Cluster consolidation, Biocat fosters relationships and synergies between all the stakeholders located in the area and encourages networking with other clusters and agencies, both on a national and international level.
  • Business competitiveness, which Biocat drives by working actively to identify and address the needs and weaknesses of Catalan companies in the sector and fostering policies, programs and initiatives that will allow them to successfully move into the global market.
  • Internationalization, fostering the participation of Catalan companies in the top international fairs and congresses in the sector, organizing delegations and technical missions to strategic markets and working to make sure that top worldwide events are held in Catalonia.
  • Training and talent, because qualified human resources with transversal skills are key to the success of biobusiness projects, which combine scientific research and business management.
  • Social perception of biotechnology, because only with the complicity and implication of society as a whole will biotechnology be able to make the most of its potential and use this to improve the quality of life of the general public.

In addition to driving these points, Biocat is also currently focusing its efforts on one large-scale transversal project:

  • KIC-IET: Biocat is driving Catalonia’s bid to lead the life sciences KIC (Knowledge & Innovation Community) of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), which the European Commission has started in order to foster innovation and competitiveness in Europe.
