Driving and fostering entrepreneurship, supporting the start up of new companies and collaborating on value-added programs that help transform projects into technology-based companies is one of Biocat’s main areas of action.
The aim of this line of work is to help encourage new start-ups in the fields of biotechnology, medical technology and digital health, as well as accelerating existing projects, through a series of incubation services, training, mentoring, networking and access to funding.
The success of programs like BioEmprenedorXXI, which has raised more than €42 millions in 7 editions and helped generate 62 companies and 250 new jobs, shows the great potential for business growth in the BioRegion of Catalonia. Under the framework of this initiative, Biocat, Barcelona Activa and “la Caixa” have helped launch and/or develop more than 100 technology-based projects, while also recognizing the quality and excellence of participants through the BioEmprenedorXXI Awards.
Companies participating in the acceleration program benefit from the following types of services:
Participants receive practical training in different areas of their business plan: strategy, marketing, financial analysis, legal and fiscal issues. In addition to this training, there are also six sessions on intellectual property, business models, valorization, business development and market access, as well as specific training to improve their elevator pitches and develop and improve the executive skills they need to manage a company.
From the very first day, participants have a tutor who guides them through their decisions, business plans and the viability of their ventures. The tutors also help participants to network and find the information they need to ensure their companies’ progress.
The program includes conferences, meals and networking activities with important figures from the sector in order to share knowledge and experience.
It also features intensive seminars to identify the different phases of business development and the right type of funding for each step, with the participation of venture capital funds, private investors and public and private financial establishments.
Participants also receive specialized advice on their projects from mentors and renowned professionals.
