Being part of a vibrant biocluster like ours means sharing ideas, information and good practices; having a sense of belonging and security and minimizing the risks involved in undertaking a new project; boosting our capacity to attract partners and support in order to build critical mass and boost visibility. It means being more competitive internationally. The cluster adds value for all of us. This is why we want to come together, discuss how to improve and help further strengthen our assets.
The Forum of the BioRegion 2008 featured a transversal program encouraging all the participating professionals to discuss and share their experiences, with a long list of top-notch speakers, including Stig Jorgensen (director of Medicon Valley) and Montserrat Vendrell (CEO of Biocat), and themed panel discussions on four key issues for the sector, where speakers discussed several questions:
- The future of science parks as dynamizing agents
- Funding for biotechnology
- The sector’s training needs
- The value of communication in strategy
The main conclusions drawn by these panels of experts were the need for specialized venture capital funds; the need to promote cutting-edge research projects and have the right professional profiles, mainly in terms of business management and development; the role of science parks as dynamizing agents and making them multidisciplinary spaces; and the importance of communicating the value of projects to society.
Afterwards, participants met again for a closing party, in a more casual and fun setting, with cocktails and good music.
