BIO International Convention 2013 held in Chicago brought together more than 13,500 delegates from 62 countries, 1,722 exhibitors and performed 25,573 partnering meetings.
The Catalan delegation coordinated by Biocat for the seventh consecutive year and which was formed by 25 biotechnological, biomedical and venture capital companies and 10 institutions, represented more than 50% of the Spanish pavilion. It was a great opportunity to network with international leading managers and, more specifically, to license projects and technologies, promote own franchises, introduce new products, find partners, promote the own business and expand into new markets.
The Spanish official pavilion of 418 square meters, where the BioRegion of Catalonia was, was located in the central hall (number 1417) next to France, Israel, Illinois (the state hosting fair), Maryland, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, Massachusetts, among others. There were also represented BioBasque and Andalusia BioRegion, with 9 companies in total, as well as other 30 institutions of autonomous communities without established bioregion. The Spanish participation was officially convened by the Spanish Institute for Foreign Trade (ICEX) and was managed through the bioregions in collaboration with the Spanish Association of Biotechnology Companies (Asebio).
