Biocat has published its 2018 Report of activities, which compiles the main projects, new initiatives and indicators from an intense year of promoting its strategy based on three priorities: growing innovation and accelerating projects and companies in the sector, developing talent and promoting knowledge, and positioning the BioRegion of Catalonia internationally.

The year’s main milestones include launching new projects like The Investment Readiness Series, an initiative that aims to increase the flow of investment-ready research projects, and CRAASH Barcelona, an acceleration program that helps European research teams launch their healthtech innovations to market.

The most noteworthy event of the year was the presentation of a new edition of the Biocat Report in December. This publication is the benchmark study that analyzes the healthcare and life sciences sector in Catalonia every two years. The presentation was presided over by the Honorable Quim Torra, President of the Government of Catalonia, who also wrote a foreword to the Report of activities.

“Catalonia is on par with any of the benchmark countries in this arena. Know this: we have all the right ingredients and they are of the very best quality. It is up to us to use and further boost them wisely, as we have done so far,” Torra highlights in his welcome letter in the Report of activities. “So, as President of Catalonia, I would like to publicly recognize the work of Biocat and all the stakeholders in the BioRegion, who help strengthen and consolidate this sector day after day”.

2018 also brought new members of the management team, including Jordi Naval being named Biocat CEO and Núria Martí, Director of Innovation.

“In 2018, Biocat presented a highly ambitious 2025 Vision, with Catalonia and Barcelona ranking among the top three biomedical hubs in Europe. To achieve this 2025 Vision, Biocat has started kicking off actions aimed at consolidating this great field of assets in the BioRegion, and promoting its capacities to rise in the main rankings in the global healthcare and life sciences industry,” highlights Jordi Naval in his welcome letter in the Report of activities .

Plus, in 2018 Biocat also launched the new Bibliometric Portal of the BioRegion of Catalonia, with data on scientific production in biomedicine in Catalonia; celebrated the fifth anniversary of Moebio and continued working on B·Debate, Health & Bio Team Dating, international projects and boosting the visibility of the sector through various communication channels and participation in fairs and conventions.
