The Catalan company Prous Institute for Biomedical Research, dedicated to the discovery of medicines through computational techniques and experimental studies in the areas of cancer, diabetes and Alzheimer, has moved to its new facilities in the Scientific Park of Barcelona (PCB). The new headquarters occupy a 370 m2 floor of the PCB, where they already have laboratories of organic synthesis and pharmacology.

The company's medium-term objective, as has stated its director of Business Development, Xavier Mensa, is that the present staff of 20 people will have to grow to give answer to the new plans to develop new projects of computational chemistry and give support to the eminent agreement with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to develop new predictive technologies together. The forecast for 2010 is a turnover of 2 million Euros.

Prous Institute was established in 2000 as a spin-off of Prous Science of the hand of Dr. Josep R. Prous to apply the knowledge acquired in medical scientific publications in the world of research. It is a private company, owned by the Prous family, which receives grants from CDTI, CIDEM and the Ministry of Science and Innovation.

Thanks to its technologies, Prous develops a dual and complementary entrepreneurial activity: on the one hand, part of its activity is in the R+D to discover and develop new drugs for out-licensing projects, and on the other hand, it develops and is beginning to distribute its chemical informatics technologies (i-drug solutions) to pharmaceutical industries, regulatory agencies and the academic world in the international area.
