BIO (Biotechnology Industry Organization) has already started preparations for next year’s edition of the top biotech convention in the world, which will be held in Washington (USA) from 27 to 30 June, 2011.

Like the last four years, Biocat will coordinate the participation of a delegation of Catalan companies and organizations from the biotechnology and biomedicine sector, in collaboration with ICEX, Genoma España and Asebio.

For Catalan companies and research bodies, BIO is the global showcase for the biotechnology industry, where they can prospect new markets and establish contacts with clients, partners or investors (some American companies that don’t normally come to European fairs do participate in the BIO congress). In addition to the exposition space –which housed more than 1,900 exhibitors and 60 pavilions in 2010- the congress also offers partnering sessions –which have been ranked highly by Catalan businesspeople who have participated in them- an agenda of conferences and events to encourage networking, like the welcome reception (27 June) and the gala reception (29 June).

A large group representing the BioRegion of Catalonia participated in the congress last year (46 companies and organizations), with a 1,000-square-meter area that made up over half of the Spanish pavilion. 95% of all Catalan participants said that they met the goals they had set before the congress and valued the contacts they made highly.
