CONFERENCE SYNOPSIS
The global response to Covid-19 Pandemic has mobilized an unprecedented level of resources for research, leading to the development of effective vaccines in record time. However, this success has limitations, as no therapies and antivirals have proven effective against the new virus and vaccination campaigns are facing global inequalities. Today more than ever, it is time to adopt a holistic approach to tackle this pandemic, covering biological, clinical, environmental and social issues.
The CaixaResearch Conference, "PANDEMICS: Overcoming Covid-19 and preparing for the future" on behalf of “la Caixa” Foundation, will foster discussion on available tools, current vaccines technologies and logistics to fight the current pandemic and other emerging infections, with the aim of improving preparedness and evidence-based decision-making.
The conference, led by a scientific committee from ISGlobal and IrsiCaixa, has discussed available tools, current vaccine technologies and logistics to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as other emerging infections.
The Conference sessions focused on 4 main topics :
- Developing diagnostics and therapeutics
- Developing vaccines
- Zoonoses and One Health
- Transforming public health
Presentation of projects to investors
During the second day, a small number of attendees, who have been previously selected by a jury of experts, had the opportunity to present their project related to pandemics to a group of investors.
This CaixaResearch Conference is co-organized by the ”la Caixa” Foundation and Biocat, with the support of Barcelona City Council - Culture Institute of Barcelona and led by a Scientific Committee of the Barcelona Institute of Global Health (ISGlobal) and the AIDS Research Institute, IrsiCaixa, centers with the support of the ”la Caixa” Foundation.
