Digital health serving people: A challenge ahead

The pandemic has sped up the growth trend in digital health in the BioRegion that started several years ago, to such an extent that Barcelona has climbed in the ranking of the European cities with the most important digital investments in 2020, just behind London, Stockholm, Oxford and Berlin. Despite the acceleration in the digitalization of health systems, the incorporation of digital technologies in the provision of healthcare services and making them reach people are still challenges ahead for Catalonia.

Pau Rodríguez is the CEO of  Methinks AI, a startup founded in 2016 and based at Pier01. He is an industrial engineer and has an MBA from the SDA Bocconi School of Management. He is a member of the Spanish chapter of the Club of Rome, an organization working to find solutions to the challenges facing humanity. Pau has also been a professional rugby player: “In rugby everyone has a different profile, you work as a team and it’s important to trust your teammates...It’s similar to entrepreneurship.”

Marta Gaia holds degrees in Biomedical Engineering and Electrical Engineering from Politecnico Di Milano, Italy (BS, MS) and Stanford University (PhD), and a certificate in Entrepreneurship from the Stanford Graduate School of Business. In 2016, the Silicon Valley Business Journal named her one of the 'Silicon Valley 40 Under 40'.

Four professionals in the BioRegion of Catalonia are among the 50 most influential leaders in Europe in the healthcare technology arena, according to HIMSS Europe. This international organization for the advancement of digitalization in healthcare, which organizes the event Health2.0, has published its ranking of the 50 Top Healthcare IT Leaders in Europe, which includes Manuel Armayones (UOC), Victor Bautista (SocialDiabetes), Inma Grau (Fundació iSYS and Hospital Clinic) and Jordi Serrano (UniversalDoctor).
