The Investment Readiness Series

Increasing deal flow of projects ready for investment in the BioRegion: this is the main goal of the Investment Readiness Series, a new initiative from Biocat. Additionally, Biocat wants to add value to research projects through one-to-one mentoring, make it easier for projects scouting for partners by concentrating top-notch research, and establish a long-term relationship with TTOs, leveraging the impact of their work on an ecosystem level.

How does it work?

The Investment Readiness Series consists of two topic-specific calls per year, in which Biocat will bring together and mentor the top research projects in the BioRegion. Participants will have a chance to pitch their project to the top relevant partners and meet them in private meetings, including venture capitalists, companies and venture builders that are looking for outstanding health projects and participate in their development.

Partners will act as a pivotal assessment committee, depending on the topic launched in each call, with the opportunity to review the top projects from our ecosystem and select the ones they want to know more about.

The Investment Readiness Series is intended for technology transfer officers or researchers at research centers, health institutes or hospitals who are willing to boost their project in line with industry and market requirements.

Biocat is looking for early stage health research projects in the valorization process that are established in the BioRegion of Catalonia and will be ready to be transferred or invested in within a year. More than one project per institution or principal investigator is allowed.

The process

The Investment Readiness Series consists of the following steps:

  1. Call on a specific topic open to the whole scientific community in the BioRegion.
  2. Top projects with the highest investment potential are sent to the partners.
  3. Partners choose several projects to be presented in the Investment Readiness Series.
  4. One-to-one mentoring and pitch assessment prior to the meeting.
  5. Project pitch, discussion, networking and partnering opportunities in the future.
