The Bio-CT (European Biotechnologies Common Tools) project was launched in 2009 and aimed to valorize projects and create biotechnology companies. Participants included bodies from Germany, France, Hungary, Italy, the United Kingdom and Catalonia.
The program, as part of the Regions of Knowledge project in the EU 7th Framework Program, finished in 2011 with very positive results. Over these years, translational actions were established to boost research competitiveness and transfer in the industrial phase.
With this aim, the bioregions shared resources, focusing on building a network of incubation and predevelopment systems, facilitating access to large infrastructures and, mainly, incorporating the necessary human resources for research.
Under the framework of Bio-CT, Biocat led the block on human resources, focusing on identifying and proposing measures to attract and bring talent back to Europe. It also promoted the mobility of researchers between countries and between academia and industry.
The project finished with an Action Plan to facilitate the maturation of industrial projects in the partner bioregions, which in addition to Biocat included Genopole Paris (France), BioTOP Berlin (Germany), Innova Debrecen (Hungary) and Biopark del Canavese (Italy).
