Promoted by the European Commission, Interbio was an interregional cooperation program that aimed to foster transnational cooperation, technology transfer and innovation in the fields of biotechnology and the life sciences in southwestern Europe.
As an interdisciplinary network, Interbio brought together research centers, technology platforms and companies from the 5 regions that make up the southern Europe biocluster: Barcelona and Valencia, in Spain; Bordeaux and Toulouse, in France; and Lisbon, in Portugal.
This project lasted 4 years (2009 - 2012) and continued through the Transbio SUDOE project, with 32 collaborators and partners from 8 regions, including Biocat.
The founding members of Interbio were University Paul Sabatier Toulouse - UPS (Midi-Pyrénées - France), Biocat (Catalonia – Spain), Institut Européen de Chimie et Biologie - IECB (Aquitaine - France), Institute of Chemistry and Biology- ITQB (Lisbon - Portugal) and the Valencia InnDEA Founcation (Valencia – Spain).
Interbio was mainly geared towards researchers, engineers and students in the public and private sectors, and its main goals were:
Expanding and facilitating public or private associations to reduce the obstacles facing potential associations, always looking at the transferability of results to companies, especially SMEs, start-ups and spin-offs in the biotechnology and health sector
