The seventh edition of BIO-Europe Spring (BES) will be held in Paris from 9 to 11 March. From Catalonia, 18 companies and one university will go to the fair, making up 51% of all registrations from Spain, which, although not yet closed, is a similar percentage to that seen at the 2014 edition.

The Catalan companies that will participate include pharmaceutical firms like Esteve, AlmirallGebro Pharma, Lacer and Reig Jofré, biotechnology firms like GP PharmIntelligent Pharma, Iproteos and Anaxomics Biotech, and start-ups like UsMIMA, a company that came out of d·Health Barcelona, the flagship program of Moebio –an initiative of Biocat- which is developing a device to combat chronic constipation. The Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona will also be preset at the fair, as will Biocat with a small booth (10A) available to members of the BioRegion as a meeting point and for distributing promotional materials.

BIO-Europe is one of the largest European partnering events in biotechnology and the life sciences, where organizations and companies can scout for new business opportunities and partners. Although the biggest strength of this event is the one-to-one partnering meetings, it also features workshops and business presentations (including one from Catalan company Almirall).

The opening plenary session of BES 2015, on Monday 9 March, will feature Pierre-Henri Benhamou, co-founder and CEO of DBV Technologies; Paul J. Hastings, CEO of OncoMed Pharmaceuticals; and Rachel K. King, co-founder and CEO of GlycoMimetics Inc, and be moderated by the managing partner of Sofinnova Partners, Antoine Papiernik, welcoming participants and sharing his vision, opinion and advice on how to face challenges in the biotechnology industry.

The program of the fair covers various different topics, some of the sessions dealing with business management and entrepreneurship –like the workshop Innovative Financing Models by President of MacDougall Biomedical Communications Douglas MacDougall that will be held on Monday 9 at 4 pm- and others will deal with R&D&i, like the workshop Cell-based immunotherapies for cancer: What types of partnerships will support successful commercialization?, on Monday 9 at 2:45 pm featuring representatives from Bavarian Nordic, AstraZeneca and Novartis.
