The carpooling initiative aims to reduce the number of vehicles that drive to the PCB and make sure the ones that do are closer to full. Pollution, gas prices and the lack of parking in the area are important reasons to start carpooling.

Biocat is supporting the initiative, which kicked off this Monday, October 3, when Park users could download the Hoop Carpool app. With a code just for the PCB community, they can now start organizing their trips and sharing the expenses.

With this app, each passenger can save up to €2,500 and 480 hours each year. And that’s not all, they can also cut CO2 emissions by more than 1,400 kg and deal with rising gas prices, use less energy and get to work quicker. These figures are based on an average of 1.2 passengers per car and 50% of current drivers participating.

This carpooling initiative is run by the Barcelona Science Park and Hoop Carpool, with collaboration from the Barcelona Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB), Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC), Bosch i Gimpera Foundation, National Center for Genomic Analysis (CNAG-CRG), Biocat and Qiagen, but is open to any other organizations interested in joining.

How to start carpooling

It just takes three easy steps to start carpooling:

  1. Download the Hoop Carpool mobile app.

  2. Sign up and use the code #Comunitat PCB to take advantage of the promos available. Users can share expenses without commissions and drivers can earn up to €20 in gas vouchers.

  3. Now you can carpool to improve your quality of life, your community and the planet!

On October 25, members of the Hoop Carpool team will be on site to raise awareness and promote the initiative. You’ll find them in the foyer of the Cluster II building.
