Biocat has opened the call for participants in d·HEALTH Barcelona Part Time, the new talent development program that trains and provides tools for participants to identify an unmet clinical need, create a technological solution that addresses that need and develop a business idea based on that solution, using the Stanford University biodesign methodology.

The training, inspired by the Biocat d·HEALTH Barcelona program, includes access to an innovative entrepreneurial environment, validation of an unmet clinical need, training from sector experts, designing a solution that improves patients’ quality of life and acquisition of the skills needed for a professional career in this arena.

The participants are broken into multidisciplinary groups of 3 or 4 people that prepare the clinical immersion, with support and guidance from experts from the ecosystem, and pitch training. The program has a hybrid format, compatible with working hours.

Clinical immersion at four benchmark hospitals in Catalonia

One of the most attractive aspects of the program is the opportunity to do a two-week clinical immersion at four different benchmark hospitals in Catalonia. This immersion allows participants to identify unmet clinical needs and later look for potential technological solutions to resolve them.

The participating centers are: Bellvitge University Hospital (Neurology Unity), Germans Trias i Pujol University Hospital (Nephrology Unit), Hospital Universitari Parc Taulí (Oncology Unit) and Vall d’Hebron University Hospital (Rehabilitation Unit).

Enrique Hernández, founder and CEO of Loop Dx, a startup created out of d·HEALTH Barcelona, explains his experience in this video and the benefits of doing the clinical immersion. Also James Hugall, CEO of Breaz Medical and former participant in the Biocat program.

d·HEALTH Barcelona Part Time is organized by Biocat with support from the Catalan Ministry of Health, EIT Health and Tech Barcelona.
