CataloniaBio and HealthTech Cluster merge into an association that will represent more than 170 companies
<p>The call for elections to choose the board of directors will open on 9 January</p>
The member companies of both CataloniaBio and HealthTech Cluster have approved the integration of both organizations into a single association under the name CataloniaBio & HealthTech. The new association, located in the Barcelona Science Park, will represent more than 170 companies, in addition to collaborating agents such as hospitals, research centers and universities.
Negotiations and the merger process took place over the course of this year, with institutional support from ACCIÓ and legal advice from RCD.
“The merger with the HealthTech Cluster is in line with the strategy we defined in 2014 with the new board of directors as to what CataloniaBio should be. We worked towards the growth, visibility and projection of the biomedical business fabric”, explained Ignasi Biosca, outgoing president of CataloniaBio and CEO of Reig Jofre.
“We will become a benchmark in innovation”, said Albert Gallart, outgoing president of HealthTech Cluster and CEO of Grupo Pulso. “With this integration we have advanced and are moving ahead of other countries with health ecosystems”, stated Albert Giralt, outgoing vice president of HealthTech Cluster and CEO of Avinent.
CataloniaBio & HealthTech will have seven strategic lines: internal and external networking, innovation and technology transfer, international alliances, investment and financing, talent management, regulatory framework and communication.
The call for elections to choose the board of directors for the new association will open on 9 January and the candidates nominated will direct CataloniaBio & HealthTech for the next four years. The electoral period will run from 25 January to 7 February 2018.
