The UAB Research Park is organizing a seminar entitled Increasing knowledge transfer and innovation in the Mediterranean area on 20 March 2013 in Barcelona, to conclude the European Iktimed project, which will share innovation policies dealing with open innovation, intelligent specialization and innovative public procurement. Participants will also debate the topics framing the European innovation policies established in the Horizon 2020 program and analyze actions that can foster open innovation in the eleven Mediterranean regions participating in the project, including Catalonia.

The event will begin with a presentation by Anna Torelli, head of the Iktimed project, and afterwards there will be two panel discussions with speakers from Catalonia and the rest of Europe. The panel discussion The Knowledge Innovation Communities (KICs) and their influence in the MED area, at 12:30 pm, will feature Miquel Martí, director of the Biocat Business Development Department, as well as Silvia Rita, associate professor of Economics and Management at the University of Padua; Maurizio Malè, project manager at the CRACA cooperative association; Camille Bosquet, consultant in French company Bluenove specializing in open innovation; and Ruggiera Sarcina, who is in charge of dynamizing the Mediterranean Innovative Communities (MICs) in the Veneto and Marche regions of Italy.

One of the important points of these policies has been the creation of communities made up of research centers, companies and higher-education centers that work together to carry out innovative projects. To this end, the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) has designed the Knowledge and Innovation Communities (KIC), with each community focusing on one area and representing Europe as a whole. Currently, Catalonia is the headquarters of the KIC InnoEnergy and is preparing two bids in the areas of innovation for healthy living and active ageing and food for the future (Food4future), in which Biocat is participating (with the support of Ciemat-MINECO) alongside other organizations.

The seminar is open to any interested companies, entrepreneurs, researchers and representatives from organizations in the research and innovation arena.
