Marta Aymerich has joined the Catalan Health Department as its new Head of Research. Aymerich is a medical doctor and surgeon, with degrees from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), holds a Masters in Assessment and Management of Healthcare Services from the UAB and a Masters in Public Health from Harvard University. She is an associate professor in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Girona, where she also heads up the TransLab research Group (Translational Medicine and Decision Science Lab).

Previously, Aymerich held positions like head of the Catalan Agency for Health Technology Assessment and Research (2006-2008), where she developed her professional career as a researcher starting in 1995, head of the Interdepartmental Council for Research and Technological Innovation (2004-2006) and vice-secretary of the Academy of Medical Sciences and Health of Catalonia and the Balearic Islands (1997-2002).
