Mind the Byte, the only company in Spain accredited by Amazon Web Services for cloud computing solutions in biotechnology and biomedicine, is holding the first Scientific Cloud Annual Conference (SciCloud) in Barcelona on 12 June. The SciCloud conference, to be held annually, will bring together experts from different areas of cloud services and science to discover and exchange ideas and breakthroughs in this field.
The use of computational techniques is key to optimizing and accelerating R&D&i projects, especially in drug development. However this often requires heavy investment and maintenance that SMEs and research groups can't afford. The cloud as an infrastructure and SaaS (Software as a Service) as a pay-per-use programming solution help rationalize these computational techniques, adapting to real needs at all times without having to purchase servers or IT infrastructure.
The inaugural session will be given by Biocat CEO Dr. Montserrat Vendrell and Dr. Jesús Purroy, scientific director of the Barcelona Science Park (PCB). Other speakers include Dr. Jordi Villà-Freixa, director of the Polytechnic School at the University of Vic; Hakan Gurel, Solution architect at Amazon Web Services; Dr. Alfons Nonell-Canals, CEO of Mind the Byte; and Oscar Huertas, director of Technology at SOM Biotech.
Mind the Byte is one of the companies that have participated in the BioEmprenedorXXI program promoted by "la Caixa", Barcelona Activa and Biocat.
