The Daniel Bravo-Andreu Foundation has given two biomedical research grants for short stays abroad to young scientists Victor Leonardo Velecela and Mireia Alcalde. Both will participate in cutting-edge cardiovascular research.

Dr. Velecela will spend 3 months in the MRC Human Genetics Unit of the prestigious Institute of Genetic and Molecular Medicine at the University of Edinburgh (United Kingdom), where he will participate in research into adult cardiology. Dr. Velecela is currently doing his postdoc work in the University of Barcelona Department of Cell Biology and hopes to profile the principles of embryonic epicardium and discover the role the Wt1 gene plays in this process.

Mireia Alcalde will spend six months in the Department of Medicine at the University of California-San Diego (United States), where she will do research in pediatric cardiology. Alcalde is currently in the last year of her doctoral thesis and her work focuses on identifying the genetic basis and molecular mechanisms involved in arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia.

Thanks to the Daniel Bravo grant, these young researchers will have the opportunity to learn innovative new techniques and contribute new knowledge to research in Catalonia.

The Daniel Bravo grants are geared towards research personnel working in Catalonia that have a university degree or equivalent, or a PhD. Each grant comes with a €3,000 gross monthly allowance, in addition to travel expenses.
