The 19th annual Science Week, organized by the Catalan Foundation for Research and Innovation with support from the Catalan Ministry of Economy and Knowledge Secretariat for Universities and Research, will be held in Catalonia from 14 to 23 November.

A wide variety of multidisciplinary activities and events will be held to raise awareness of science and technology throughout Catalonia. These will mainly be conferences, panel discussions, open doors days at research centers and museums, courses, workshops and exhibits, all geared towards the highly varied audience that is invited to attend free of charge.

One of the greatest challenges of the week is to promote scientific knowledge and vocation among secondary-school students. To do so, under the Science in the Classroom program promoted by the FCRI, Department of Education, Barcelona City Council and “La Caixa” Foundation, among others, this edition of Science Week will include School Science Day. Wednesday 19 November, roughly 100 researchers will give conferences simultaneously at secondary schools around Catalonia.

Science Week will kick off at 10 am on 17 November at Palau del Parlament with the conference entitled Can HIV be eliminated in people who have been infected? The role of the therapeutic vaccine by Dr. Bonaventura Clotet, director of the IrsiCaixa Institute for AIDS Research and head of the HIV Unit at Hospital Trias i Pujol

After the inaugural event, new this year, there will be a symposium entitled Vaccines, science and society, one of the core events of Science Week, organized by the IEC and FCRI with support from the Advisory Board of the Parliament of Catalonia for Science and Technology.
