The yearly Report of the Spanish Bioindustry Association (AseBio) will be presented on July 7, featuring the main statistics on the evolution of the biotech sector in Spain. This year, with the title “Cap a un creixement resilient i sostenible” (Towards resilient, sustainable growth), the document focuses on highlighting the value of the industry as a strategic sector for the social and economic transformation of Spain by 2050 and its impact on the new sustainable growth agenda.
Elisa Carbonell, head of Internationalization at ICEX, will give the welcome talk and AseBio CEO Ion Arocena will present the report. The event will cover all the SDG points, with participation from companies and startups in the BioRegion including Oryzon CEO Carlos Buesa and MiMARK CEO Marina Rigau.
According to the latest data that AseBio advanced in April, Catalonia once again led the country in number of biotech companies in 2021, with more than 24% of the total and over 45% of national turnover. The BioRegion is also home to the companies with the highest average turnover in a sector that is strategic for the whole country’s economy, contributing 0.91% of the GDP.
Taking into account the positive data for the Catalan sector, it’s no surprise that the Association has chosen the capital city to host the upcoming edition of BIOSPAIN, one of the leading congresses in Europe. The event will be held from September 26 to 28 in Barcelona, through collaboration with Biocat, the Government of Catalonia and the Barcelona City Council.
