Biocat will celebrate its 20th anniversary on November 2 with an event bringing together key stakeholders from Catalonia’s life sciences and healthcare ecosystem. The gathering, which will take place at L’Auditori in Barcelona, will provide an opportunity to recognize two decades of shared growth, highlight the evolution of the BioRegion of Catalonia, and reflect on the future of healthcare innovation.

Three roundtables exploring two decades of ecosystem development

Journalist Cristina Riba will host the event, which will begin with an institutional welcome from Salvador Illa, President of the Government of Catalonia and Chair of the Biocat Board of Trustees. Robert Fabregat, CEO of Biocat, will then review the main milestones and the evolution of the ecosystem over the past twenty years.

The program will feature three roundtable discussions exploring the BioRegion’s journey from its origins to the projects that could shape its future. The first, “Where we come from: from a shared vision to the consolidation of the BioRegion”, will revisit the ideas and initiatives that have helped build the ecosystem. Cristina Riba will moderate the discussion, featuring Montserrat Vendrell, former CEO of Biocat and Partner at Asabys; Ignasi Biosca, Vice-Chair of the Biocat Board of Trustees and CEO of Reig Jofre; Joël Jean-Mairet, co-founder of Ysios Capital; and Josep Tabernero, Director of the Vall d’Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO).

The second roundtable will focus on “Where we are: business growth, innovation, and international reach”. Eva García Ramos, President of Catalonia.health and CEO and co-founder of WIVI Vision, will moderate a discussion with Fina Lladós, General Manager of Amgen; Manel del Castillo, Chair of the Committee for Evaluation, Innovation and Operational Reform of the Healthcare System (CAIROS); Carles Fàbrega, General Manager of Human Health at HIPRA; and Carolina Aguilar, founder and CEO of INBRAIN Neuroelectronics. The discussion will explore the factors that have driven the ecosystem’s growth and international expansion.

The third roundtable, “Where we are heading: strategic projects, market access, and personalized medicine”, will look to the future. Moderated by Montserrat Daban, Director of Strategy and Global Alliances at Biocat, it will bring together Josep M. Campistol, CEO of Hospital Clínic de Barcelona; Àngel Font Vidal, Executive Director of the CaixaResearch Institute; Luis Pareras, founder of Invivo Capital; and Laia de Nadal, Rector of Pompeu Fabra University.

Josep Rull, President of the Parliament of Catalonia, will deliver the closing remarks. The celebration will continue with a networking cocktail reception, offering attendees the opportunity to reconnect and exchange ideas about the future of life sciences and healthcare in Catalonia.
