The eighth edition of CRAASH Barcelona successfully celebrated the ‘Barcelona Week’, a turning point in Biocat’s acceleration program in collaboration with CIMIT (Boston). Over three days, the teams strengthened key aspects to bring their solutions to the market and the healthcare system, combining training sessions with networking spaces and feedback on their value propositions.

Throughout the week, the program combined training, networking, and feedback with experts. Marcos Puebla (Alira Health) addressed how to integrate patient engagement into the design and deployment of new solutions. Silvia Vinyes (DKV Insurances) explained the role of insurers as buyers of healthcare technology and the adoption criteria that shape demand. Imma Herrero (Mowoot) shared recommendations for planning and conducting clinical trials in the medtech field. Josep Sala and Katharine d’Amico (The Swala Institute) worked with the teams to strengthen the storytelling and effectiveness of their pitches. Eduard Otero (CVC–UAB) focused on innovation trends and Artificial Intelligence applications in health applied to their solutions. Laura Sampietro (Hospital Clínic) described how health technology assessment (HTA) units work and their impact on hospital adoption, specifically at Hospital Clínic, while Marina Carrera (Hospital Sant Joan de Déu) delved into the management and use of health data through the hospital’s “Command Center.” Daniel Oliver (Capital Cell) presented strategies to access funding, and Arnau Valls (SJD) outlined opportunities and barriers to entering the pediatric market. The Pitch Sessions: Barcelona-Germany allowed teams to compare their projects with German experts, gain practical insights, and open new paths for collaboration.

The balance of the week is very positive: the teams have consolidated practical knowledge in clinical and regulatory validation, customer discovery, hospital adoption, and funding; they have connected with clinicians, investors, and advisors; and they have opened potential pathways for pilot tests and new collaborations, including the Barcelona-Germany exchange for internationally oriented projects.

The ‘Barcelona Week’ provides projects with the tools, contacts, and knowledge needed to accelerate their path toward commercialization and clinical implementation. CRAASH Barcelona is a high-impact program, with an 87% survival rate among accelerated projects and more than 100 jobs created in previous editions

The teams will continue their journey with new mentoring sessions and will prepare the final presentation before investors and ecosystem stakeholders. Biocat will gather the results to strengthen the acceleration, transfer, and funding access programs of the BioRegion of Catalonia.
