The fourth edition of the BioEmprenedorXXI program will begin this June. This program is consolidating its position as a benchmark in the start-up and growth of innovative companies in the life sciences sector in its widest application: biotechnology, biomedicine, environment and agrifood. In this sense, one of its main aims is to support the start-up of innovative companies with a global vision that will allow for the transfer of research developed at universities and research centers to the market. The deadline for registration is 18 May.
This is a joint initiative of “la Caixa”, the Barcelona City Council (through Barcelona Activa), Biocat, Genoma España, the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce and, for the first time this year, Almirall. Collaboration among these public and private bodies ensures that participants will receive a first-hand look at the main science and technology breakthroughs, business concerns and training and financial needs of the market.
The presentation event, presided over by Deputy Mayor for Treasury and Economic Promotion and President of Barcelona Activa Jordi William Carnes, was held this morning at the Barcelona Activa headquarters. Also present were Pere Guardiola, “la Caixa” head of Institutions in Catalonia; Xavier Ricart, deputy manager for business promotion for the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce; Rafael Camacho, general director of Genoma España; and Montserrat Vendrell, CEO of Biocat.
To finish off the event, a round table was held on the innovative projects in biomedicine, biotechnology and medical technology springing forth from public research institutions, with participation from Xavier Rubies (Center for Genomic Regulation), Francesc Iglesias (Vall d’Hebron Research Institute) and Cristina Horcajada (Barcelona Institute for Biomedical Research). The table was moderated by General Manager of the Bosch i Gimpera Foundation Carme Verdaguer.
