Catalan government earmarks €17.4 millions to incorporate 250 new researchers into the research system
The government has also awarded 248 grants for short stays at universities and research centers abroad.

A total of 250 researchers currently working on their doctoral theses will be hired by Catalan universities, hospital foundations and research centers thanks to the €17,433,748 in grants approved by the Government of Catalonia. These grants, managed by the Secretary for Universities and Research Agency for Management of University and Research Grants (AGAUR), aim to foster research careers from the very beginning.
By field, 59 are for architecture and engineering, 54 for life sciences, 40 for humanities, 38 for sciences, 33 for social sciences, 21 for medical sciences and health, and 5 for multidisciplinary research.
More than half of the postdoctoral students hired are from the University of Barcelona (67), the Autonomous University of Barcelona (55) and the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (39). The rest are from Pompeu Fabra University (25), Rovira i Virgili University (21), the University of Lleida and the University of Girona (16 each), Ramon Llull University (9), the University of Vic and the International University of Catalonia (1 each).
Additionally, AGAUR has also announced the results of the call for grants to carry out research abroad, geared towards both pre- and post-doctoral researchers, which were awarded to a total of 248 researchers. The countries chosen for these research stays include the United States, where 51 researchers will travel; Great Britain, with 49; and France and Germany, with 29 and 24 respectively. The total amount earmarked for these grants is €1,496,081.
