In order to generate new synergies between basic and clinical researchers at hospitals and research centers in Catalonia, the Daniel Bravo Foundation has launched the first call for proposals for the Daniel Bravo Projects in pediatric research. This initiative, through the collaborations it promotes, aims to find solutions to unmet medical needs in children and young people.

Researchers may apply for one of these grants of up to €300,000, with a maximum of €100,000 per year over three years. The funds may be spent on personnel, investment in equipment and fungible materials, external collaborations and scientific/technological services, travel allowances, and management expenses.

Projects applying for this grant must focus on unmet needs in pediatrics and feature collaboration between clinical and basic research groups at different centers. The foundation expects to award a maximum of three grants, which will go to projects in very different areas, like cancer research, minority diseases, hospital innovation, genomics and personalized medicine, congenital heart defects, nutrition and eating disorders, among others.

The selection process will have two phases: first those interested must fill out a pre-application by 20 January 2015, which will be evaluated from a formal, economic and scientific standpoint, and then projects selected by the foundation will have the chance to submit a full application by 7 April 2015.

See the rules of the call.
