The European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) has announced their own awards, which will be presented in 2012, to support innovative entrepreneurial initiatives related to the topics of the Knowledge and Innovation Communities (KIC):

  • climate change mitigation and adaptation,
  • the future of the information and communication society, and
  • sustainable energy.

The business initiatives will be selected by the three KICs (ICT Labs, InnoEnergy and Climate Change). Each KIC will propose three projects to be invited to do a commercial launch at a top-notch conference, on 21 February in Brussels, based on which the three winners of the EIT awards will be chosen. The top-notch conference is the EIT Entrepreneurship Awards 2012 & ACES Academic Enterprise Awards and Conference, organized by the EIT in collaboration with Science Business.

Finalists will have the chance to attend a skills-based course to help them successfully present their business and will also be able to meet with renowned businesspeople who will advise them on how to prepare to grow their business.

“Mentoring is key for emerging companies. The connection to powerful executives in European industry will give credibility to entrepreneurs. It will hopefully help them get access to new clients, markets and to think big! This is how the EIT wants to leverage its network and help expand companies,” says Daria Tataj, a member of the EIT Governing Board’s Executive Committee.

On their website, the EIT explains that it will provide more information soon on the initiatives selected by the KICs.
