During 2011 and 2012, the European BIOCHEM project —launched in February 2010 and jointly funded by the European Commission— will give bioentrepreneurs and researchers the opportunity to pursue their project and meet with European investors, venture capitalists and other representatives from the sector.

This will be done through a number of forums —called Accelerator Fora—the first of which will take place in Madrid from 4 to 6 May. The second is expected to be held from 5 to 7 October in Milan and two more will be held in 2012, in Frankfurt and London. The Madrid Accelerator Fora will include the final round of the BIOCHEM business plan competition, venture capital sessions and partnering sessions.

BIOCHEM business plan competition

This competition will give awards to and promote the ideas with the most promise in terms of boosting the creation of new biotechnology businesses. It is specially geared to entrepreneurs, universities, research centers and results transfer offices, which can submit their business plans and proposals online.

All applications received will be evaluated by a selection committee. The 30 best project ideas will be invited to the Accelerator Fora, where they will have the opportunity to present their business plans. Three prizes will be awarded to the most innovative technology and three more to the plans with the most business potential.

Venture capital investment forum

In addition to the awards, the six finalists in the business plan competition will have the chance to present their business plan to a panel of expert venture capital investors, as well as 24 companies that have already received support and are active in the biotechnology sector. Venture capital firms interested in participating in this event can register to do so here.

Partnering system

The Accelerator Fora will also offer, through an associated platform, partnering sessions that will help identify potential partners from industry, academia, and venture capital around Europe.

Dates: from 4 to 6 May 2011?
