Catalonia is working to attract entrepreneuring talent in the science and technology sectors. In this case, it is the University of Girona Science and Technology Park working to this end, with the international Develop your talent program they have started up to encourage professionals and companies from around the world to move to the UdG Park with a series of value-added services and total financing for 18 months.

Some of the services available to entrepreneurs include: space to develop their project, housing at the Park –where the project’s team can live- and mentoring sessions with a professional with administration, university and business knowledge that will serve as an interlocutor and guide to help the project succeed.

As Àlex Brossa, project manager at the UdG Science Park, explained, “the guidance we provide through this program is key to bringing entrepreneurs’ ideas to our market and helping them find both funding and technological partners”.

Girona (near Barcelona and the Costa Brava) offers highly competitive scientific and technological excellence in some fields, including agrifood –in addition to biotechnology and bio-agrifood- water and ICT applied to culture. Thus, this program has prioritized these fields.

The call for proposals will be open throughout 2010 or until the total number of projects foreseen are approved. The projects presented will be evaluated by a technical committee according to criteria available on the program’s website.

This program is funded by the Girona Regional Government and the Government of Catalonia’s Department of Economy and Finance.
