The International Center for Scientific Debate (ICSD) has just opened its call for proposals for the 2012 calendar of events, which runs through 1 September 2011. The ICSD is an initiative of Biocat with support from the “la Caixa” Welfare Projects, which aims to drive first-rate international scientific meetings to promote dialogue, debate, collaboration and open exchange of ideas and knowledge among experts and entities of renowned national and international prestige.

The call for proposals is geared towards renowned experts with links to research entities in Catalonia that work in the field of life sciences. Proposals must focus on frontier fields of science, be transversal and include other disciplines, have a high degree of internationalization, be of consolidated significance, take into account local potential and interests, and have an impact on society.

The standard format of ICSD activities fits the following characteristics:

  • Topics of particular scientific interest and impact on society
  • Closed sessions: participation by invitation only
  • Length: 2 or 3 days
  • Participation from international speakers and entities
  • Debate-oriented format

Applications received will be evaluated by the ICSD Scientific Committee and then selected based on their degree of excellence and the extent to which they fit with the values promoted by the ICSD.
