Biocat and CataloniaBio & HealthTech will be presenting the 2020 BioRegion Report in an online event this Monday, September 28. The document, which is the benchmark study on the life sciences and healthcare ecosystem in Catalonia, compiles the main macroeconomic data on the sector, including investment figures updated through September 2020. The event will be inaugurated by President of the Government of Catalonia Quim Torra, and the report will be presented by Biocat CEO Jordi Naval and President of CataloniaBio & HealthTech Judit Anido. Anyone can attend but you must sign up beforehand.

This document, entitled BioRegion of Catalonia Life Sciences and Healthcare Outlook 2020: Challenges Ahead, aims to highlight the BioRegion’s potential as a driving force for innovation, providing data and in-depth analysis of the sector’s evolution in recent years. This edition, with collaboration from Amgen, also points out the main challenges that will have to be faced to make the BioRegion more attractive to international investment and better position it as a European hub for research and innovation.

Global data and by subsector

The BioRegion Report includes indicators for the sector as a whole and others broken down by subsectors (biotechnology, pharmaceutical, medical technology and digital health companies) and for research centers. It also features data on the number of companies, startups created, employment and GDP generated by the sector, the number of patents, scientific publications and clinical trials, among other significant indicators.

The program for the event, with collaboration from the EATRIS-Plus platform, will include a panel discussion on personalized medicine and close with the finals of the Àlex Casta Awards for best startup pitch in the BioRegion. The finalists –Ona Therapeutics, Aortyx, Glycardial, ABLE Human Motion and Pebble Analytics– will give their pitches live and the audience will vote online.
