All ready for Advanced Therapies Europe: the advanced therapies innovation event in Barcelona
From September 2 to 4, 500 international leaders in the sector will meet at Hotel Arts in Barcelona to drive the future of ATMPs in Europe. Biocat is collaborating on the event and there are exclusive discounts for organizations in the BioRegion.

Barcelona is hosting the Advanced Therapies Europe 2025 (ATE), a strategic, highly selective congress that will make the city the European capital of advanced therapies. The event expects to welcome 500 senior professionals, executives, scientists, investors and innovation managers in an environment designed for strategic collaborations.
Biocat is working with the congress organizers, Phacilitate, to help get key stakeholders from Catalonia involved, driving synergies with the international ecosystem. This collaboration is part of Biocat’s strategy to promote the sector’s global projection in cutting-edge areas like gene and cell therapies, regenerative medicine products and advanced support systems.
Strategic, multidisciplinary program
ATE 2025 will feature an extensive program of plenary sessions with international experts, panel discussions, technical workshops, and spaces for exchanging knowledge and networking. Discussion topics will include the European regulation on ATMPs, new market access models, manufacturing scalability and clinical integration.
Some important sector gatherings at the congress will include “Women in Advanced Therapies” and the “Investment Summit”, as well as spaces for startups and institutions developing transformative solutions in this area.
Noteworthy participation of key stakeholders from Catalonia
Catalan innovation will have a significant presence in the congress, with 32 Catalan companies taking part and a total of 300 registered so far. The following have already confirmed their participation: Alessandra Magnani, from Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau; Avencia Sanchez-Mejias, CEO of Integra Therapeutics; Gerard Caelles and Miquel Vila-Perello, from Splice Bio; Luis Pareras and Laura Rodríguez Gallego, from Invivo partners; Héctor de la Riva, from Novartis; Stephanos Theoharis, from OneChain Therapeutics; and Sylvain Sachot, from Asabys partners. This group of speakers will share a transversal vision that encompasses translational research, specialized investment and knowledge transfer, consolidating the BioRegion as a European benchmark in advanced therapies and bolstering Catalonia’s position in this strategic arena.
On behalf of Biocat, Montse Daban, Director of Strategic Analysis and International Relations, will take part in the panel discussion “The state of the CGT industry & turning the future into action,” where she will address the role of Catalonia and Spain in the production and clinical adoption of advanced therapies, as well as their integration into the European strategy to ensure equitable access. Daban will also moderate other key sessions at the congress, including one on decentralized manufacturing and the closing panel on the future of cell and gene therapies in Europe.
Under the framework of this event, Daban also recently participated in a webinar on ATMPs in Europe. She defended the need for strengthening Europe scientific leadership, building a collective voice to influence regulatory issues and accelerate adoption of these therapies to benefit patients.
Barcelona, advanced therapies hub
Barcelona wasn’t chosen to host the congress by chance. According to the BioRegion Report, the city is home to almost 40% of ATMP companies in Spain, more than five hospitals accredited to produce and administer them, and more than 70 organizations in the ATMP Catalonia network, one of the most active in Europe. In terms of clinical trials, Barcelona ranks fifth in Europe and eighth in the world in the number of ATMP studies.
ATE 2025 will be a chance to raise awareness of Catalonia’s potential, forge international partnerships and strengthen the shared strategy toward advanced, accessible, sustainable medicine.
Tickets are on sale now, but limited to 500 attendees. Organizations from the BioRegion can use the code BIOCAT20 to get 20% off.
