‘The role of science in the BioRegion’ will be the theme of the first dialog in the series ‘Dialogs on the BioRegion: 10 conversations to explain the next 10 years’, a conversation featuring president of the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST), Andreu Mas-Colell, and deputy director of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC), Josep Maria Martorell. This first dialog will be held as part of the 2016 Forum of the BioRegion on 25 November from a quarter past four to five o’clock in the afternoon.

This conversation will inaugurate the series of dialogs promoted by Biocat in celebration of its 10th anniversary. The events aim to be a place of reflection for stakeholders in the Catalan healthcare and life sciences ecosystem, starting in 2016 and running through 2018.

Renowned experts in different areas or disciplines will exchange ideas, analyses and points of view in one-on-one conversations without a moderator in a format inspired by ‘Las conversaciones de El País’. The program will cover key topics to explain the future of the BioRegion, including entrepreneurship, business models and technology.

The first conversation between Andreu Mas-Colell and Josep M. Martorell will take place at the Forum of the BioRegion, an essential event for identifying opportunities in the healthcare and life sciences sector that will be held on 25 November at the Palau de Congressos de Catalunya.

The program will also include a chat on the successful public-private partnership experiences of the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center, MaRS Discovery District and Medcity and a session on future trends in biopharma, medtech and digital health. Participants will also debate the need for a Chief Scientist in Catalonia, drawing comparisons to Canada's experience with this position.
