On 7 July, the Societat Econòmica Barcelonesa d'Amics del País (SEBAP) will hold a debate on how to maintain the efficacy of the Catalan research system. Participants will include executives from three benchmark organizations in this field in Catalonia: managing director of the Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBELL), Emilià Pola; director-general of the Barcelona Graduate School of Economics (Barcelona GSE), Eduard Vallory; and CEO of Biocat, Montserrat Vendrell. The event will be moderated by Joan Guinovart, chairman of the SEBAP Research Committee.

Of the 554 million euros the Catalan Administration invested in R&D in 2008, as shown in the Biocat Report 2009, nearly 30% went directly to biotech research. To see the most representative numbers of the BioRegion of Catalonia regarding research in Catalonia, click here.

This event is part of SEBAP’s mission to study and put to debate the current state of the country and the possibilities for fostering economic development.
