The Entrepreneurs’ Forum is one of the highlights, focusing on creating biotech-based start-ups and the success stories of entrepreneurs.
BY BIOCAT
The 34th Congress of the Spanish Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (SEBBM) will be held 5 to 8 September 2011 in Barcelona. This edition will include scientific sessions (plenary sessions and themed symposia), an Entrepreneurs’ Forum, training activities (introduction to research course), meetings of the Society groups, an exhibit area (with presentations of posters and commercial news) and presentation of the Izasa-Beckman-Coulter, Promega Biotech Ibérica, José Tormo and Eppendorf awards.
Biocat CEO Dr. Montserrat Vendrell will participate in the inaugural event on 6 September at 11 am.
The Entrepreneurs' Forum
The Entrepreneurs’ Forum, coordinated by Lluís Ruíz (Janus Developments) and Rosa Aligué (University of Barcelona), is of particular interest to young researchers and entrepreneurs from the biotechnology and biomedicine sector. Entitled From the generation of knowledge to the generation of value: overcoming the valley of death, this forum aims to inform participants of the most relevant aspects of starting up a biotech-based company and, on the other hand, sharing experiences from entrepreneurs that have been successful or are working to transform their project into a consolidated company in the sector.
Biocat's Director of Innovation, Dr. Marta Princep, will moderate the Marketing round table: Knowledge Transfer through Licences or Spin-offs, in which Marisol Soengas (CNIO-Bioncotech, [Spanish National Cancer Research Center]), Carme Verdaguer (Bosch i Gimpera Foundation of the University of Barcelona) and Eduardo Almenara (Research Results Transfer Office from the University of Zaragoza) will participate. The round table will be held from 12:15 to 13:30 hrs.
At the end of the day, a young researcher will be recognized with the first Entrepreneurial Project in Biotechnology Award, sponsored by the Spanish Association of Biotechnology Companies (Asebio), Genoma España, the Spanish Society of Biotechnology (SEBIOT) and SEBBM.
