To celebrate its 10th anniversary, Biocat is holding a new edition of the Forum of the BioRegion of Catalonia on 25 November at the Palau de Congressos de Catalunya in order to bring together the stakeholders in the Catalan healthcare and life sciences ecosystem and reflect on the challenges and opportunities available in this current environment of change and sectorial transformation.

At the event, international experts will present their experiences with public-private partnership and discuss the trends and future of biopharma, medtech and digital health, within a global framework characterized by economic uncertainty, market volatility, regulatory changes and increasing demand for innovation and generating value. Each panel discussion will cover a transversal topic that is a priority in the BioRegion of Catalonia.

The Forum of the BioRegion was held every year between 2008 and 2011. The latest forum brought together more than 450 executives and professionals from the sector, and this year's event hopes to include key opinion leaders from here at home and abroad, as the event will be open to the international public for the first time.

Biocat is organizing the event and is offering sponsorship options to companies and organizations interested in boosting their visibility among stakeholders in the BioRegion. So far, confirmed collaborators include Mind the Byte

 

How to create value in a changing environment, the program’s leitmotiv

The Forum's program features a much-needed comprehensive global view of the current trends and future challenges for the healthcare and life sciences sector. It is an essential event for anyone interested in staying up-to-date and discovering new ways to create value, identify business opportunities and gain competitiveness. It has been designed to inspire participants with experiences that can be applied to their business model, while also boosting their knowledge of advances in the industry with information from top international experts.

In the first session, former President and CEO of the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center (USA) Susan W. Bannister, and Senior Advisor for Health Systems to the MaRS Discovery District (Canada) Zayna Khayat will share their successful public-private partnership and technological valorization experiences. Both speakers are experts in health innovation. Bannister has been called one of the 10 most influential women in biotech by the Boston Globe and Khayat works to get healthcare systems to adopt the best technology to improve public health and performance, as well as promoting the new economy of health.

The event will also delve deeper into new trends and challenges in the healthcare industry, with three international speakers specializing in the three main subsectors. Managing Partner at Monacon Beteiligungs GmbH Michael Müller, who will speak about the challenges facing the sector biopharma sector; Managing Partner at Innovation in Medtech LLC David Cassak, who will take a closer look at the new paradigms in medical technology; and Partner and Chairman of the Board at Draper Esprit Vishal Gulati, who will discuss the future of the digital health sector.

The program will be rounded out with a keynote speech, a debate on the need for a Chief Scientist in Catalonia, featuring Head of the Life Sciences Sector in the Office of the Chief Scientist at the Israeli Ministry of Economy Ora Dar, and a dialog on science between Andreu Mas Colell and Josep Maria Martorell.

 

Biocat launches series of dialogs on the BioRegion

At the Forum, to celebrate its tenth anniversary, Biocat will also kick off a series of dialogs on the BioRegion: “10 conversations to explain the next 10 years”. These dialogs will take a closer look at topics of interest to anyone who is part of the ecosystem in Catalonia. The first session will feature Andreu Mas Colell and Josep Maria Martorell discussing science.

Registration for the Forum of the BioRegion will be open from Monday 26 September to Wednesday 23 November.
