More about the Innaxe project

Improve innovation strategies of European bioclusters

Biocat led the Innaxe project (Inclusive and Aligned Innovation Agendas Across Europe), funded by the Horizon Europe program, with the goal of exploring how to generate greater impact from its actions within the BioRegion. The project aimed to reach across Europe, thanks to the participation of five clusters and a network of 45 BioRegions that formed the consortium.

The 4 main pillars:

  • In-depth knowledge of the ecosystem and international comparison of the indicators used.
  • Comparison of programs and services offered by the cluster organizations.
  • Analysis of the impact of these programs and services on the ecosystem.
  • A joint action plan to improve the service portfolio and promote the dynamism and competitiveness of the EU’s innovation systems.

Towards more interconnected health innovation ecosystems aligned with European priorities

Running from July 2022 to July 2024, the INNAXE project contributed to improving the interconnection, efficiency, and innovation capacity of European life sciences and health ecosystems. Its impact was significant in shaping new tools and strategies aligned with European innovation agendas.

The project’s main results and impacts included:

  • Collection of best practices and development of a strategic roadmap, based on data gathered from 85 clusters through surveys and external sources such as ESCA. This work enabled the creation of benchmarking tools to improve cluster services and define action lines aligned with major European challenges (green, digital, and health).

  • Contributions from project partners, with Biocat leading the knowledge transfer to the Catalan ecosystem and CEBR facilitating connections between emerging and established clusters, promoting international collaboration and synergies.

  • Results-oriented impact assessments, which helped identify needs and best practices using logical frameworks, strengthening alignment between regional and European policies, particularly in areas such as MedTech and digital health.

This project marked an important step toward better coordination and co-creation among European clusters, with the aim of maximizing the impact of innovation policies and services in the health sector.

Project members

The project, led by Biocat, has the following partners: Île-de-France (France), Rhine-Neckar (Germany), Bulgaria and Denmark bioclusters, and the Council of European BioRegions (CEBR).
