"Life is too short to be in the wrong job"

Silvia Raga
“I’ve been passionate about the healthcare sector since I was little,” says Silvia Raga, CEO of DyCare. After finishing her degree in Biomedical Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Turin (Italy), she completed her training with an MBA at EAE Business School. She has more than 8 years of experience in the medical device sector, in the hospital, academic and private arenas. In 2004, she joined DyCare, a company that designs wearables to revolutionize the rehabilitation process for patients with skeletal muscle problems. She has headed up the company since 2015.
DyCare develops technology solutions to better monitor and treat patients with skeletal muscle problems. The key? “Integrating wearable technology for use in the medical arena,” highlights Silvia Raga, CEO of the company. The company is innovating in the sector of rehabilitation with medical devices so that physiotherapists, rehabilitation physicians and orthopedic surgeons can improve diagnosis, monitoring and evaluation of their patients’ mobility disorders.
Why did you want to be an entrepreneur?
I’ve always thought life is too short to be in the wrong job. For me, entrepreneuring has always been a way to try to generate value, solve problems, satisfy needs and have a positive impact on my surroundings. But, above all, what drew me in was the idea of having a place where I can reach my own dreams, ideas and goals.
What is the most important strategic decision you’ve made so far?
All of the decisions I make for the company are important and strategic: there’s not a single minute that I don’t think of the impact they may have on the company and my team. Perhaps the most important one was in our first round of funding, when we chose strategic partners renowned in the physical rehabilitation sector. The time and effort I put into this phase of the company were undoubtedly very important.
What is the best advice you’ve ever been given?
A great friend always told me, “Always think big but start small.” When you start out on your own, everything seems really complex and complicated, which makes it easy to get lost along the way. So, I always try to remember that great achievements come from small actions.
And now what? What milestones do you want to achieve in the short term?
In February 2017, we launched our first product to market: Lynx, a novel movement-analysis system. My goal is to consolidate sales in Spain and then open up the European market. At the same time, we’re working on development of ReHub, the first digital therapy solution that will open up the huge market of tele-rehabilitation. It is a very ambitious project with which we aim to position ourselves as leaders in the rehabilitation sector.
