First deputy mayor for the Barcelona City Council, Jordi William Carnes, and president of the Biocat Executive Committee, Manel Balcells, signed a collaboration agreement yesterday at the Biocat Forum regulating use of the new Barcelona Biotech brand, registered by the city.

This agreement will allow for coordinated actions to promote and project Barcelona as an attractive and dynamic location for biotechnology, biomedicine and medical technology.

“This agreement is a great opportunity for Barcelona to position itself as one of the leading cities in the biotechnology sector and continue to attract talent and investment to the city”, explained deputy mayor, Jordi William Carnes.

Moreover, “it will help project Barcelona as an attractive, dynamic geographic region for the biotechnology, biomedicine and medical technology sector, both on a national and international level”, added president of the Biocat Executive Committee, Manel Balcells.

International impulse

This agreement will also help attract foreign companies and investors to the bio sector. Additionally, it will promote knowledge and aims to improve social perception of biotechnology, biomedicine and medical technology in Catalonia.

Therefore, both the Barcelona City Council and Biocat will promote the city of Barcelona through joint participation in forums, congresses and trade fairs they deem to be key to the projection of the new Barcelona Biotech brand. Moreover, they will collaborate to attract significant events from this sector to the city.

The third annual Biocat Forum –under the slogan Connect, build the future– brought together more than 700 representatives from biotechnology, biomedicine and medical technology companies and organizations in the BioRegion of Catalonia at Barcelona’s Casa Llotja de Mar. The Forum aims to foster collaboration among the sector’s various stakeholders and drive innovation.
