Biocat selects candidates with degrees in engineering, design, business or the life sciences for d·HEALTH Barcelona 2020

This July, Biocat is starting the selection process for the seventh class of Design Health Barcelona (d·HEALTH Barcelona), its postgraduate fellowship to develop innovators and entrepreneurs in the healthcare sector. 95% of the program’s alumni have found work in the healthcare sector and one in three have their own business project.
The program kicks off in January 2020, lasts nine months and is geared towards people with degrees in the life sciences, design, engineering or business.
How Design Health Barcelona works
Following the biodesign methodology developed by Stanford University, the d·HEALTH Barcelona fellows experience a whole innovation cycle. In multidisciplinary teams, they do a two-month immersion at a large Catalan hospital (Vall d’Hebron, Sant Joan de Déu, Institut Guttmann, Hospital Germans Trias or Hospital Clinic) to detect needs that could become a new product or service.
During the program, the d·HEALTH Barcelona fellows work on the design, prototype, business model and funding for the solution they develop. At the same time, they acquire knowledge in medicine, medical technology and business, plus skills in areas like design thinking and creative leadership from more than 70 international experts from Boston and Stanford, among others.
95% of alumni find work in the sector
95% of the alumni from the first six classes of d·HEALTH Barcelona have found work in innovation positions at hospitals, pharmaceutical and medical technology companies, research centers, consulting firms and other professional services companies.
Some of the organizations where former fellows are working include the Mayo Clinic, Sanofi, Roche Diagnostics, Neos Surgery, Smith & Nephew, Barcelona Supercomputing Center, IRB Barcelona, Hospital Sant Joan de Déu, Hospital Clinic, Hospital Parc Taulí, Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, Grupo Pulso and DKV Seguros.
Plus, one in three alumni are currently working on their own project, many based on ideas identified during the fellowship’s clinical immersion. Some of these cases include usMIMA (MowoOT), I-Ophtalmology and Loop-DX.
A program with exceptional partners
d·HEALTH Barcelona is part of the Innovation Fellowships program of EIT Health, the main European consortium in health, which gives fellows opportunities for international mobility with other programs and to be part of the extensive European EIT Alumni network after finishing the program.
This year, d·HEALTH Barcelona partnered with Ferrer as an industry partner and Barcelona Tech City as a strategic partner.
