On December 3 and 4, Barcelona and Catalonia consolidated their position as one of Europe’s benchmark hubs for healthcare innovation by hosting Health Tech Forward 2025. The event, which focuses on transformative digital content and high value networking, received support from the Government of Catalonia, Barcelona City Council and Biocat as the ecosystem partners, further strengthening the city’s position as a digital health and medical technology hub.

This year’s edition featured X international participants from X countries, more than X startups and over 3,000 one-to-one meetings, putting Barcelona at the center of European health innovation activity. Biocat CEO Robert Fabregat welcomed participants, highlighting the current boost in the Catalan ecosystem: “We are proud to host Health Tech Forward—and this is no coincidence. Barcelona and Catalonia have become one of Europe’s most dynamic, fastest growing healthcare innovation hubs. Here, scientific excellence, pioneering hospitals, top tier technological talent and a deeply rooted culture of collaboration all converge.”

The BioRegion of Catalonia takes center stage at the congress

Catalan participation was seen in many formats on the program, with hospitals, startups and specialized investors from the BioRegion of Catalonia taking part in sessions on some of the most critical topics shaping the future of healthcare: integrating artificial intelligence into clinical practice, immersive technologies for wellbeing, the challenges of the European Health Data Space and the evolution of FemTech and value based care. These are all areas in which Catalonia is making steady, determined progress.

The participating organizations included Hospital Clinic Barcelona, Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau, the Catalan Health and Social Care Consortium and Vall d’Hebron University Hospital, as well as companies and funds like Clyype, Asabys, EIT Health and Nina Capital, which shared their experiences with AI, health data, mental health, TechBio and value based models.

An international showcase for Catalan talent

One of the standout pillars of Catalan participation was The BioRegion of Catalonia Pavilion, led by Biocat. The space served as an international showcase and meeting point for health innovation, hosting ten selected startups: ABLE Human Motion, Doctomatic, Made of Genes, Loop Diagnostics, MiMARK Diagnostics, MiWEndo Solutions, MOWOOT, Point Pressure, Time is Brain and Vitalera.

At the pavilion, the companies held strategic meetings, presented their solutions, and connected with investors, businesses and international stakeholders in the sector. On the first day of the congress, Catalonia Startup Pitch brought all these startups together before a global audience, highlighting the potential and diversity of health entrepreneurship in Catalonia.
