LASER-GO launched to facilitate internationalization of BioRegion’s photonics sector

Helping Catalan companies and organizations working in photonics, healthcare and the life sciences enter the markets in the United States, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Israel, New Zealand and Singapore. This is the goal of the European Cluster Partnership in Photonics for Health, better known as LASER-GO, launched this January by Biocat and five other European healthcare and life sciences ecosystems.

Through LASER-GO, Biocat will soon launch calls for business missions to these countries, which companies in the BioRegion said were their top priorities in the 2017 Internationalization Survey. To make sure you don’t miss any of these calls, subscribe to the Biocat distribution list.

Through LASER-GO, Biocat will also sign collaboration agreements to facilitate landing for this type of companies. These agreements will follow what is known as the Gateways model from the European bioXclusters plus project, which facilitates landing for personalized medicine companies in various markets, which Catalan companies like Anaxomics and Avida Biotech have benefited from. 

Biocat will present Catalonia’s potential in the photonics arena, a growing sector in the BioRegion, in the United States, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Israel, New Zealand and Singapore. In this field, Catalonia is home to cutting-edge centers like ICFO  (considered the best physics institute in the world by Max Planck Institute) and companies like Hemophotonics, Radiantis, Signadyne (a spinoff of lCFO, acquired by the giant Keysight Technologies in 2016), ProcareLight, Coronis Computing, Fractalmed, Transmural Biotech, Wegapixel, Dycare, Galgo Medical, Alma IT Systems, Braingaze, QMENTA (previously MintLabs), COSINGO-Imagine Optics Spain, INTERmedic, Impetux Optics and Wegapixel.

LASER-GO has a total budget of half a million euros, is co-funded by the European Union through EASME (Executive Agency for SMEs) and is expected to last 18 months. In addition to Biocat, the other LASER-GO partners are Opticsvalley, the largest cluster in France specializing in optics, photonics, electronics and software; Human.technology Styria, the main cluster in Austria specializing in the life sciences and healthcare technology; Laser and Engineering Cluster (LITEK), the main high-tech cluster in Lithuania, focusing on optoelectronics and laser technology; Medicen (Paris), one of the largest clusters in Europe specializing in biotechnology, digital health and medical devices; and Optence, one of the most noteworthy clusters in optical technology in Germany.
