Barcelona, September 9, 2025. – The International Biotechnology Meeting BIOSPAIN is being renewed, moving from a biennial to an annual format, with the aim of continuing to be a benchmark both nationally and internationally in the biotechnology sector. This year’s edition, to be held from October 7 to 9 in Barcelona and organized by the Spanish Bioindustry Association (AseBio) and Biocat, in collaboration with the Government of Catalonia and the Barcelona City Council, will announce during the scheduled activities the venue for BIOSPAIN 2026; a role that Barcelona will also take on in the 2027 and 2029 editions.

Looking ahead to BIOSPAIN 2025, and under the motto “Global crossroads, local vibes”, some 60 sessions will be included to address the latest advances in genomics, gene editing (CRISPR), oncology therapies and immunotherapies, as well as synthetic biology. In addition, the impact of artificial intelligence on clinical research, biotechnology applied to regenerative agriculture, and the European regulatory context surrounding New Genomic Techniques and pharmaceutical legislation will also be discussed.

This edition will also feature the “Green Innovation Forum”, a dedicated space for companies in the agricultural, food and industrial biotechnology sectors (green biotechnology). This forum, which held its last edition in 2024 in Pamplona, will be integrated this year into BIOSPAIN with the aim of strengthening synergies and expanding its international reach. It will include a program of debates and roundtables that will delve into the most relevant aspects of innovation in biotechnology and the green economy, seeking medium- and long-term solutions to challenges such as climate change, industrial transformation, sustainable food, or the development of bioproducts, among others.

The organizers of the 2025 edition expect to reach or even surpass the record figures achieved in 2023, which brought together more than 2,200 attendees from nearly 1,000 companies in 34 countries and generated more than 5,000 one-to-one meetings. The 11th edition highlighted the role of the biotechnology sector as a driver of the new health model; positioning itself as a key element in achieving the strategic autonomy of Spain and Europe in areas such as the economy, health, sustainable food, and the green industrial transition.
