The BREATH project aims to strengthen talent management in health research (Health Innovation, HI) in Catalonia, Flanders, and Lithuania. It responds to the need to make research careers in this field more attractive and competitive by improving working conditions and professional prospects for researchers at all stages of their careers.

To achieve this goal, the project develops innovative governance models that enhance the capacity of research centers to provide strategic support for talent, offering clearer career pathways, more effective promotion structures, and improved professional development services.

Col·laboració per impulsar la carrera investigadora

BREATH also promotes collaboration between academic institutions, businesses, and public and non-profit organizations to bring research closer to the productive sector and align it with the needs of the healthcare industry. This translates into concrete actions to improve training, facilitate international mobility, and support the integration of researchers into diverse professional environments, including the private sector.

Overall, the project aims to enhance the attractiveness and sustainability of health innovation ecosystems at the European level, helping to attract, retain, and grow scientific talent with real impact on society.

The main objectives of the project are as follows:

  • Create a collaborative health research talent ecosystem that adapts researchers’ skills to the needs of the sector. The project aims to design a governance model that also promotes the green and digital transitions within the health innovation system.

  • Define career pathways and improve competencies by analyzing current career trajectories and developing training programs to reduce the gap between academic training and market demands.

  • Provide personalized support for research careers through the design of individual professional development plans for Early Career Researchers (ECRs), offering tailored guidance on different career paths to help them achieve excellence and better adapt to the sector.

  • Foster mutual learning and knowledge transfer among the three ecosystems to drive institutional change and develop policy recommendations that inspire reforms and guide evidence-based policymaking.
