Pere Solà has stepped down as director general of Urban Planning for the Government of Catalonia, a position he held since 2007, to begin a new project as director of Parc de l'ALBA-ALBA Synchrotron in Cerdanyola del Vallès (Barcelona). He takes over for Miquel Sodupe, who was the director of the Park since 2006.

Born in Ribes de Freser in 1953, Solà has extensive experience as an architect and urban-planning advisor. He has worked as the municipal architect of Ripoll (1983-1989), head of the Office of Urban-Planning Information at the Association of Architects of Catalonia’s Girona delegation (1985-1992), urban-planning advisor for the City Council of Sant Feliu de Guíxols (1990-1991), delegate for Urban Planning for the Girona City Council (1993-2006) and advisor to the Girona City Council for the integration of conventional and high-speed rail systems (2006-2007). In 1987 he received the National Award for Urban Planning.

Parc de l'ALBA is one of the Government of Catalonia’s main projects to drive the knowledge economy. This development encompasses 340 hectares and nearly 2 million square meters of potential floor space for innovative productive activities, housing, facilities and retail space, and is located in the area surrounding the ALBA synchrotron light laboratory (CELLS) and in front of the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Development will take place over 15 years, with exemplary urban, environmental and infrastructural quality. It aims to transform the Vallès area into one of the main innovation hubs in Southern Europe in the middle term.
