  • He is taking over the position held since 2018 by Jordi Naval, now CEO of InProTher. 

Barcelona, 14 October 2021.- The Biocat Board of Trustees, chaired by President of the Government of Catalonia Pere Aragonès, has named Robert Fabregat the organization's new CEO. Fabregat is taking over the position left vacant when the previous CEO, Jordi Naval, left to head up Danish startup InProTher.



Barcelona, June 28, 2021.- In a year that promised to be difficult because of the pandemic, Barcelona has climbed to fifth place in the ranking of the European cities with the most important rounds of funds in digital health, just behind London, Stockholm, Oxford and Berlin. The digital health startups of the BioRegion raised €34.5 million in 2020, seven times more than in 2016 (€5.1 million). Barcelona, March 22, 2021. In a year made difficult by the Covid-19 pandemic, the life sciences and healthcare sector in Catalonia reached an exceptional milestone. In 2020, health startups in the BioRegion managed to raise €226 million in investment, the most ever, doubling in just two years from €112 million in 2018.

With 3 months until the end of 2020, the life sciences and healthcare sector in Catalonia is flexing its muscles, in spite of expectations it would be a challenging year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In just 9 months, startups in the BioRegion (the life sciences and healthcare ecosystem in Catalonia, the most dynamic in Spain and one of the most active in southern Europe) have managed to raise €120 million in investment, well above the previous record from 2019, which was €112 million.
