In 2024, Biocat drove and collaborated on several strategic initiatives to strengthen the positioning of the BioRegion and respond to current challenges in the sector.
Support for talent and internationalization
Biocat has joined Barcelona International Welcome Desk, an initiative that facilitates the integration and attraction of international talent to the life sciences and healthcare sector. This allows Biocat to offer personalized support and information for professionals and companies seeking to establish themselves in Catalonia, further positioning the BioRegion as a global hub.
Driving innovation in healthcare technologies
In collaboration with Fenin, Biocat has launched joint actions to foster innovation in the field of healthcare technologies. This partnership makes it possible to pool efforts to promote digitalization, technology transfer and business competitiveness in the sector.
Strategic agreement with Farmaindustria
In December 2024, Biocat and Farmaindustria signed a strategic agreement to bolster healthcare innovation in Catalonia. The agreement establishes lines of collaboration in clinical research, development of advanced therapies, training and retention of talent, and joint promotion of high-impact services and projects.
Support for entrepreneurship and start-ups
Through the Startup Support Program 2024, Biocat has selected and accompanied three emerging companies, offering personalized mentoring and facilitating connections with investors and strategic partners. This initiative helps strengthen the entrepreneurial ecosystem and consolidate innovative projects with high growth potential.
Boston mission
The last week of September, Biocat led an institutional mission to Boston with a delegation of 15 participants from 12 leading institutions in the BioRegion of Catalonia. The delegation took part in the World Medical Innovation Forum and held strategic meetings with benchmark institutions like the Massachusetts General Brigham MESH Incubator and the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research. This mission made it possible to establish new collaborations in clinical research and knowledge transfer, as well as strengthening Catalonia’s international presence as a hub for healthcare innovation.
Japan mission
In October, Biocat led a Catalan delegation to Japan to attend BioJapan 2024, the EU-Japan Biotech & Pharma Partnering Conference, and events organized by ICEX and the Economic and Commercial Office in Tokyo. The mission facilitated meetings with Japanese clusters, pharmaceutical companies and public institutions, opening up new opportunities for collaboration in personalized medicine, advanced therapies and biomanufacturing. This action has consolidated Catalonia’s presence in the Asian market and opened up new avenues for international collaboration.
